A golden childhood memory

18.04.2026

I remember the saturdays I had as a child. When I was 7-11, I had many of the same saturdays, but the times were good. It was the 00`s. And we saw a new digital era. We tried out styles like emo & punk, had mp3 filled with Britney-songs and played snakes on our Nokias. I remember that I always designed the day by myself and ruled my whole day by myself. The only thing the grown ups said was that I should eat up the salad before candy and put on warm cloths. There was not that much strictness in the weekends as I saw with others, probably because they knew me, saw that I was a pretty smart kid, was independent and behaved. And also I had done my homework for the week so... To give me freedom to do whatever I wanned on the weekend as long as I took responsibility was a good deal. To give me that freedom was a right thing to do. I woke up and made toast & tea. The amount of sugar in the tea was too high. I could have 4 large tablespoons in the cup. Then I watched tv in the livingroom with the cats. I sat there in my pajamas and just lived in my own girl-world. A blissful morning with no grown ups to set limit. Or no one to fight over the channels with. Then after my breakfast I could hide the remote under a pillow or in the big fruit-bowl just to annoy the others. I could also randomely cut off my hair, build something for the cats, play with barbies, go out to read in the hammock, do gardening or go into the forest with the cats. Next task could be to play Sims with more tea. I loved to make beautiful, successful women that lived in colossal villas. And to make lush gardens. 5-6 hours could go to playing Sims. Then when my eyes were crazy & pink after pc-play, I took my bicycle 3 km away to others in my family and we grilled on the porch and waited for the ice cream car to come. I remember the happy-feeling when I heared music from the ice cream car. And I loved the good moments when I sat on the porch after grilling and drew drawings while my people were inside and the sun had started to set. It always still smelt grilled in the air hours after the food had been grilled and it was so green, idyllic and serene. Then I took my bycicle down to Glomma (Norways longest river) to meet other people in our village and to take a night bath by the pier. Someone always had an x-tra towel for me. This could be a typical saturday for me when I was a child.

The only thing the grown ups should have done is to set more limit for the amount of pc-time and the sugar-in-the-tea-amount.

Saturdays are for adventuers, hobbies & cooking!!!!!!
